A unique course offered only by Barefoot Offshore Sailing School….

St Vincent’s only ASA (American Sailing Association) sailing school offers the first-ever course on Barefoot Navigation, with use of no-tech and low-tech techniques for wayfinding at sea. Sail the beautiful Grenadines with award-winning author, Jack Lagan, and learn the navigation techniques of the ancients.

Barefoot Offshore Sailing School

We run the courses every week of the year – and several each week.   (BOSS) Barefoot Offshore Sailing School  is the longest-established (more than 20 years) and most active American Sailing Association (ASA) sailing school in the south-eastern Caribbean.  They are hands-on, live-aboard courses, in one of the most beautiful sailing grounds in the world, St Vincent & The Grenadines, and are great not only for novices wanting to learn to sail, but also to experienced sailors looking for formal, internationally-recognised certifications.

We offer both monohull and catamaran courses , with prices from $ 1,599 for a week, including your own cabin on a fully-equipped yacht, the Instructor, and food for most meals.

About Us

BAREFOOT OFFSHORE SAILING SCHOOL is the only American Sailing Association (ASA) sailing school in St Vincent & The Grenadines, and is the longest-established (more than 20 years) and most active ASA school in the south-eastern Caribbean.

The company, a subsidiary of Barefoot Yacht Charters, is owned and run by folks who have been sailing and living here for more than 3 generations, and this gives us the unusual advantages of insight and local knowledge that most charter companies, no matter how experienced, simply cannot offer.

Our sailing school offers the following levels of certification

ASA 101 – Basic Keelboat Sailing

ASA 103 – Basic Coastal Cruising

ASA 104 – Bareboat Cruising

ASA 105 – Coastal Navigation

ASA 106 – Advanced Coastal Cruising

ASA 114 – Cruising Catamaran

  • Where we are

Located in St Vincent and the Grenadines, our cruising grounds are the Grenadine Islands. Our live-aboard courses start on St Vincent and visit the many Grenadine islands before returning to St Vincent at the end of the trip.

  • How to get here

Most persons coming from the US, transit through Barbados, St Lucia or Grenada. The main airlines used to get from Barbados to St Vincent are SVG Air or LIAT.

What others say about us

“The Instructor rocked!  The course was fantastic.  We had enough time both for fun and learning”

Robert & Lindsay Hall, Catamaran, April 2017

The cruise track was great, the lessons were very useful and the fellow crew/students will be good friends going forward. The layout of the course was perfect – we learned all the skills necessary for our certification with the ever helpful Instructor and there was enough downtime for us to see the beautiful Grenadine Islands. Cheers!

It was a generous trip because all food was provided for (bar 3 meals we had onshore) and there was an all-inclusive feel to the trip, which was an excellent value. It was a great place to make friends, put worries behind and explore a whole new world of sailing. Thank you for a wonderful week!

We had a fantastic time. Couldn’t believe that we could learn so much, in such a beautiful part of the World, for the price. Fantastic!
